U-shape vs island kitchen: how to compare the layouts
A U-shaped kitchen and an island kitchen organise cabinets in different ways. The better fit depends on the room, circulation routes, appliance locations and how you use the kitchen.
What is a U-shaped kitchen?
A U-shaped arrangement places cabinetry along three sides of a working area. It can make use of multiple wall runs. Check that doors, drawers and appliances can open without blocking the routes through the room.
What is an island kitchen?
An island is a freestanding work surface or cabinet arrangement within the kitchen. It needs enough room around it for people to move and for nearby cabinets and appliances to be used. Measure your room before choosing an island position.
Compare the layouts in your room
Sketch the available wall lengths, openings and fixed services. Then consider how you move between the sink, cooking area, storage and the rest of the home. Check clearances with your actual appliances and confirm on site with your installer.
Try a kitchen layout in 3D
Carcasso includes U-shape and island kitchen starters. Try either in 3D, adjust the layout to your room and verify the final plan on site with your installer.
